Inspiring Success: How Sona Sunil Became a Certified PMP®
Introduction to Sona’s Journey
Every success story begins with a dream and a leap of faith. For Sona Sunil, the dream was to earn her Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification and take her career to the next level. Although their paths first crossed at Yorkville University, where Sona and Kristen were both were members of the Yorkville University Project Management (YUPM) Guild in 2023, they didn’t truly connect until 2024. That year, Sona discovered one of Kristen's posts on LinkedIn about helping Yorkville University graduates achieve their PMP® certification in just 12 weeks—a moment that set her incredible journey in motion.
Overcoming Initial Doubts
At the outset, Sona wasn’t sure she’d even meet the eligibility criteria for the PMP® certification. She initially considered pursuing the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) as a fallback option. Despite her reservations, she decided to place her trust in Karma Coaching insights and our process and enrolled in the PMP® Exam Prep Mastery Program. That leap of faith marked the first step in what would become an inspiring transformation.
The Application Process
The journey began with reframing and restructuring Sona’s project experiences to align with PMI’s stringent requirements. With focused guidance, we submitted her PMP application, which was accepted within just five days—eliminating the need for CAPM altogether. With her application approved, Sona scheduled her PMP® exam for December 20, 2024, and immersed herself in the intensive 12-week preparation program.

Having been out of school for a year, Sona initially felt unprepared, rusty on project management concepts, and lacked the confidence in her knowledge and abilities to tackle the exam. Yet she showed incredible determination by attending every session, asking insightful questions, and completing all assigned materials.
